Job summary

Assystem in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior/Principal Stress Engineer to lead the stress and structural integrity capability within the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit. You will drive technical direction, mentor engineers, and represent the firm in client engagements in a hybrid work setting.

The role emphasizes leading complex assessments, developing best practices, and contributing to bids and strategy across nuclear and defence sectors.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a stress engineering team.
• Strong background in stress analysis and structural integrity.
• Proficiency with FEA software such as ABAQUS or ANSYS and relevant codes.
• Experience in the nuclear or other highly regulated sectors.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working toward it.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex stress and structural integrity assessments using FEA and hand calculations.
• Review and approve technical work, representing Assystem with clients.
• Mentor and develop engineers, building future stress specialists.
• Drive capability growth – training, methods, best practices, recruitment and retention.
• Support bids and business development, collaborating with Engineering Directors and Sales.
• Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams in nuclear and defence sectors.
