Job summary

Assystem, a leading nuclear engineering group, invites a Senior/Principal Stress Engineer to join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit in the UK. The role is hybrid, delivering high-value technical work while shaping the stress capability, tools, and talent strategy.

You will lead complex assessments, mentor engineers and drive growth across the UK stress community. This position requires Chartered Engineer status or active progression toward it, extensive FEA experience (ABAQUS/ANSYS)

Qualifications

• Lead stress engineering community and guide engineers.
• Demonstrate expertise in FEA and structural integrity assessments.
• Experience in nuclear or highly regulated sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex stress and structural integrity assessments using FEA and hand calculations.
• Review and approve technical work with clients.
• Mentor and develop engineers; build future stress specialists.
• Drive capability growth – training, methods, and recruiting.
• Support bids and business development with Engineering Directors and Sales.
• Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams in nuclear and defence sectors.
