Job summary

Assystem is seeking a Senior/Principal Stress Engineer to lead a UK stress engineering community within the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Unit. You will deliver high-value technical work for clients while shaping our stress capability, tools and strategy.

The role is hybrid with three days remote per week, and involves mentorship, bid support, and cross-disciplinary collaboration across nuclear and defence sectors.

Qualifications

• Experience leading stress analysis teams in nuclear or regulated sectors.
• Ability to review and approve technical work with client-facing accountability.
• Experience developing and implementing technical strategy and capability development.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex stress and structural integrity assessments using FEA and hand calculations.
• Review and approve technical work, representing Assystem with clients.
• Mentor and develop engineers, building future stress specialists.
• Drive capability growth — training, methods, best practices, recruitment and retention.
• Support bids and business development with Engineering Directors and Sales.
• Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams in nuclear and defence sectors.
