Job summary

Assystem in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior/Principal Stress Engineer to lead the stress capability within our Fusion and Modular Nuclear unit. You will guide a community of engineers, perform advanced stress analyses, and drive strategic capability development across projects and bids.

The role is hybrid, with a balance of high-value technical work and leadership responsibilities, including mentoring, client engagement, and cross-disciplinary collaboration in nuclear and defence sectors.

Qualifications

• Lead and mentor a community of stress engineers in a regulated sector.
• Extensive background in stress analysis and structural integrity.
• Expertise in FEA software (ABAQUS, ANSYS) and codes (ASME, BS7910, R6).

Responsibilities

• Lead complex stress and structural integrity assessments using FEA and hand calculations.
• Review and approve technical work, representing Assystem with clients.
• Mentor and develop engineers to grow the stress capability.
• Drive capability growth—training, methods, best practices, recruitment and retention.
• Support bids and business development with Engineering Directors and Sales.
• Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams in nuclear and defence sectors.
