Job summary

Assystem in the UK is seeking a Senior/Principal Stress Engineer to lead the stress and structural integrity capability within our Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit. You will deliver high-value technical work for clients and shape our stress capability strategy.

You will mentor engineers, drive capability growth, support bids, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across nuclear and defence sectors, with a hybrid work pattern offering 3 days remote per week.

Qualifications

• Lead a community of stress engineers and guide capability development.
• Strong background in stress analysis and structural integrity.
• Expertise in FEA codes (ABAQUS, ANSYS) and relevant assessment codes (ASME etc.).
• Experience in the nuclear or similarly regulated sector.
• Chartered Engineer status or working toward it.
• Ability to develop and implement technical strategy and capability development.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex stress and structural integrity assessments using FEA and hand calculations
• Review and approve technical work, representing Assystem confidently with clients
• Mentor and develop engineers, building future stress specialists
• Drive capability growth — training, methods, best practices, recruitment and retention
• Support bids and business development, working closely with Engineering Directors and Sales
• Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams in the nuclear and defence sectors
