About the Post

This post is based at West London Children’s Healthcare WLCH at the St Mary’s Hospital site, which is situated in the heart of Paddington, West London. This means we are easily accessible to major transport routes and this prime location will allow you to visit all that the capital has to offer.

WLCH at St Mary’s Hospital is a tertiary referral centre which admits children and young people with acute and complex conditions, such as Haematology, Oncology, and Infectious Disease. The Children Services at Imperial College is aligned with the paediatric care provision at Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex Hospitals and the post holder will be part of a multi‑disciplinary team putting the service values of these three hospitals at the centre of their practice.

This includes managing and supporting a team, working in partnership with service users, and enabling their care and support within Paediatrics. The successful applicant will join a multi‑disciplinary team of skilled and highly motivated staff who provide high quality care to children with a variety of conditions, including:

  • Sickle Cell Anaemia
  • Beta Thalassaemia
  • Diamond Blackfan Anaemia
  • Gene Therapy
  • Bone Marrow Transplant
Responsibilities
  • Work alongside the multi‑disciplinary team (MDT) in the management of children with a variety of haematology and oncology conditions, some of which are undergoing bone marrow transplant/gene therapy.
  • Provide high quality and evidence‑based after‑care and ensure patients and families are well supported prior to discharge.
  • Act as a clinical expert within the sphere of work.
  • Have continuous responsibility for the ward area, providing visible professional leadership and support the management of the ward, ensuring the unit is run in line with local and national safety guidelines.
  • Support junior members of the team and student nurses to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and provide support as needed.
  • Be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the clinical environment.
  • Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical area, helping to lead and monitor the performance of the nursing team through audit.
  • Offer an individual service and psychological support to patients and their families respecting their diverse backgrounds.
  • Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high‑quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the MDT.
