About the role

A Senior Quantity Surveyor is an experienced QS with experience in leading a small team of professionals. They will superintend over the measurement and valuation of works & reconciling these to costs relating to civil engineering projects. They will seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Typically they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, CInstCES or similar professional body. They will have experience of managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.

What you'll be doing
Governance
  • Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company's GMCEs, BMS and other governance
Analytical Thinking & Decision Making
  • Orders information and systematically checks data
  • Maximises digital opportunities
Cost Engineering
  • Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
  • Undertakes audits of cost to determine whether it is in accordance with the subcontract
Estimating
  • Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
Planning
  • Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time-Location
  • Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
Project Management
  • Monitors and reports on project performance on main and s/c accounts
  • Analyses the commercial progress and report to senior project staff
  • Manages commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility
  • Undertakes and advises on contract administration, issuing the appropriate notices and certificates
Procurement
  • Advises on appropriate procurement and tender routes
  • Collates the relevant tender documentation and information for tender enquiries
  • Prepares and maintains procurement programmes and helps develop the strategy
  • Prepares the detailed tender enquiries including the relevant documentation and information
  • Negotiates during the s/c tender phase within delegated parameters
Commercial Management
  • Proactively manages change according to the conditions of contract
  • Prepares and reports on cost value reconciliations using earned value management
  • Analyses rates & prices, assesses variations according to the conditions of contract
  • Undertakes customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility
  • Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
  • Prepares forecasts of outturn cost and value
Development, Recruitment and Retention
  • Maintains own Personal Development Plan
  • Manages HR/People aspects for direct and indirect reports (PDRs etc)
  • Actively supports the development of others incl professional mentoring
  • Produces plans for team to achieve goals / aspirations
  • Supports recruitment of lower grades
Who we’re looking for

The following qualifications are essential:

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or cognate award with relevant experience
  • Membership of RICS, ICES or similar professional body (or working towards)
