Shape the future of water — lead one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure programmes

We’re looking for an inspiring and experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of a truly transformational programme — the front-end development of Anglian Water’s multi-billion-pound Reservoirs Programme.

If you’re passionate about delivering major, complex projects in the water or infrastructure sector, thrive on challenge and change, and are ready to take accountability for shaping critical national infrastructure, this is your chance to make a lasting impact.

The Reservoirs Programme focuses on two new, large-scale raw water reservoirs — the Fens Reservoir and the Lincs Reservoir — along with all the associated infrastructure. Serving the East of England and East Midlands, this is the largest and most complex programme of work ever undertaken by Anglian Water — securing sustainable water supplies for generations to come.

This nationally significant programme involves securing planning approval for each scheme via the Development Consent Order (DCO) process, as well as developing the procurement and delivery strategy for future licenced Infrastructure Providers (IPs), who will ultimately design, build, finance, and operate the reservoir systems.

As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll take ownership of high-value, strategic assets or workstreams on either the Fens or Lincs Reservoir, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery against schedule and budget. You’ll oversee the achievement of key milestones across the RAPID, DCO, and DPC/SIPR procurement processes while also supporting, developing, and guiding your team to deliver strategic outcomes within your remit.

This is a hybrid role, and you’ll be expected to work at least 3 days a week in person at one of our offices — in Peterborough, London, or another Anglian Water or partner location — and be available to support critical site activities when needed.

What you’ll be doing:

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee one or more work packages through all stages of the reservoir programme — from design, consents and procurement through to construction and commissioning — ensuring delivery to budget, schedule, and quality standards while maintaining a strong focus on health, safety, and welfare.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Project Managers, fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment and ensuring clear roles, objectives, and alignment with programme goals.
  • Support effective engagement and communication with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, partners, and the public, ensuring alignment with the engagement strategy and timely reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with RAPID regulatory requirements and Anglian Water governance processes, overseeing timely documentation, approvals, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Monitor and report on package performance, manage risks, changes, and opportunities, and drive process improvements and best practices across the programme.

What does it take to be a Senior Project Manager?

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Project Manager who can lead with confidence, collaborate effectively, and deliver results in a complex, fast-paced environment.

You’ll be an experienced project manager with a proven ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver projects through others — inspiring, empowering, and coaching team members to succeed. Your strong judgement and ability to make sound decisions will help you navigate challenges and keep the programme on track.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Significant project management experience within infrastructure projects across the full development lifecycle (feasibility, design, planning, construction, commissioning and operation).
  • Major Project experience is essential
  • Experience of managing teams
  • Experience of managing multiple stakeholder groups – internal and external to the organisation – desirable
  • Experience of working on DCO projects is desirable
  • APM-PMQ or equivalent – Practitioner level is desirable
  • Health & Safety qualifications (e.g.IOSH Managing Safely) is essential
  • CDM and NEC experience is essential
  • Town and country planning experience is desirable
  • Member of a professional body is desirable

You must have a full driving licence for the position.

Benefits
  • Personal private health care
  • 26 days annual leave – rising with length of service
  • Flexible working
  • Competitive pension scheme – Anglian Water double-matches your contributions up to 6%
  • Bonus scheme
  • Flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and lifestyle
Why join us?

You’ll work on nationally significant projects, leading through the NSIP Development Consent Order process, major regulatory milestones, and the procurement of multi-billion-pound delivery partners. This role offers the opportunity to grow your leadership skills by mentoring and developing a high-performing team, while collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders across Anglian Water, regulators, and delivery partners.
