Job description

We are working closely alongside with local authority in Brentwoodto assist with the appointment of a Senior Policy Planneron a6-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £36.70 - £46.45 per hour

Summary:

The Senior Policy Planner (also referred to as Strategic Planning Consultant) provides specialist support across a range of complex and high-priority strategic planning projects for Brentwood Borough Council. The role is critical in leading the Council's response to major infrastructure projects and significant policy matters. It requires a high level of autonomy and technical expertise to coordinate effectively across internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring the timely delivery of key planning outcomes.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Council's involvement in the DCO Examination in Public
  • Prepare formal written submissions for appointed inspectors
  • Review and provide feedback on key documents, including those linked to the Section 106.
  • Support the coordination of governance arrangements for the allocation and spending of developer contributions.
  • Assist in the development and adoption of an Infrastructure Investment Plan
  • Provide input into ongoing planning applications involving Gypsy and Traveller communities.
Essentials:
  • Strong understanding of planning policy and infrastructure planning, particularly in relation to DCO processes
  • Experience in representing local authorities at public examinations or hearings
  • Familiarity with CIL and S106 processes, including governance and investment planning
  • Knowledge of Gypsy and Traveller planning policy and associated legal frameworks
