Job description

Service Care Legal are recruiting on behalf of a London-based local authority who are seeking a Senior Planning Solicitor on a temporary basis. Please find below further details about this role.

Role Details
  • Role: Senior Planning Solicitor
  • Rate: £55-£60 per hour (Umbrella) / £52.81 per hour PAYE inc. holiday pay / £47.12 per hour PAYE exc. holiday pay
  • Location: West London (Hybrid – 2 days per week in office)
  • Contract: 3 months with possibility of extension, 36 hours per week
Key Duties
  • Advise on major planning applications and urban regeneration projects
  • Provide legal advice on CPOs, appropriation, and property matters
  • Draft and negotiate complex planning and highways agreements (including s106)
  • Attend and advise at Planning Committee and Licensing hearings
  • Manage high‑profile matters including appeals, public inquiries, and judicial reviews
  • Support senior leadership and advise on legal risk and Monitoring Officer duties
  • Instruct Counsel and external solicitors as required
Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX (England & Wales)
  • Strong local authority experience in Planning and Regeneration law
  • Proven ability to handle complex, high‑value matters independently
