Overview

A vacancy at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking to recruit a Senior Medical Engineering Technician within our busy medical electronics department to help us develop and extend the range of services we currently provide.

Qualifications
  • Electronic engineering & manufacturers specialised courses or equivalent work experience.
  • Prior experience working in a hospital medical engineering or maintenance environment preferred.
  • Experience across multiple sites – Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Hospitals, Boston House and the Thomas Linacre Centre in Wigan – is an advantage.
Responsibilities
  • Work with and support the Team Leader in providing a cost‑efficient repair and maintenance service on medical equipment within the Trust.
  • Be responsible for all remedial repairs, planned preventive maintenance and calibration of a wide range of medical devices including Anesthesia Machines, Ultrasounds, ventilators, patient monitors, etc.
  • Conduct acceptance testing and configuration of newly delivered medical devices.
  • Participate in the department's monthly rotating rota, attending daily rounds to address reported malfunctions and troubleshoot various types of medical equipment, from complex to basic models.
  • Manage workload independently and plan work, ensuring the highest possible standards of patient care.
  • Provide training and instruction to medical and nursing staff and other colleagues when appropriate.
Employment Details
  • Full‑time post, 37.5 hours per week.
  • May be required to participate in an on‑call rota if the role is predominantly operational.
  • Position available at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Hospitals and specialist sites such as Boston House and Thomas Linacre Centre.
