We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Liverpool FC team as aSenior Manager, Software Development.

This role will lead the architecture, integration, and ongoing management of fan-facing digital products, including liverpoolfc.com, the official Club App, and Single Sign-On. You will oversee a dedicated delivery team, working closely with external development partners to ensure seamless execution.

The successful candidate will champion technical excellence across all platforms by maintaining robust development and architectural standards, managing the Club’s cloud infrastructure, and shaping the long-term technical strategy for Liverpool FC’s core systems.

What will you be doing?
Strategic Planning
  • Define and maintain a scalable, secure architecture strategy for fan-facing platforms (web & mobile).
  • Translate business objectives into actionable technology roadmaps.
  • Research emerging technologies to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
  • Represent the Owned Systems team in strategic planning and cross‑functional projects.
  • Identify and manage risks across fan-facing products.
System Architecture & DevOps
  • Own architecture for fan‑facing products and ensure documentation is current.
  • Manage LFC cloud hosting, ensuring security, resilience, and cost optimization.
  • Oversee CDN, DNS, and cloud user account management.
System Development
  • Lead development of fan‑facing products with internal and external teams.
  • Ensure coding and deployment standards meet LFC requirements.
  • Plan resources against product roadmap and oversee testing processes.
  • Maintain development, test, staging, and production environments.
  • Ensure accessibility standards and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Manage APIs, data integrations, and contribute to sprint planning.
  • Perform code reviews and active development when required.
  • Establish and share best practices for development and optimization.
Monitoring & Support
  • Implement performance monitoring tools and resolve issues proactively.
  • Minimize downtime and manage incidents within SLAs.
  • Coordinate out‑of‑hours support and manage third‑party providers.
General
  • Line manage and develop team members.
  • Oversee relationships with development partners and ensure quality delivery.
  • Collaborate with senior management on fan‑facing product initiatives.
  • Provide out‑of‑hours escalation support to maintain system availability.
Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a proven technical leader with at significant, proven experience in systems architecture within an Agile product environment, backed by relevant AWS certification. You’ll bring hands‑on expertise in cloud hosting (AWS), website and app development (React, Contentful, Drupal), and API integrations, alongside strong knowledge of cybersecurity, GDPR, and PCI compliance. Experience managing development teams and external partners is key, as is the ability to oversee multiple projects using Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira and Asana. You’ll have a track record of implementing scalable architecture strategies, managing integrations, and ensuring system resilience. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and familiarity with technologies such as Power BI, consent management systems, and development tracking tools are essential.
