Job description
Overview

The Senior Laboratory Analyst supports delivery of high-quality, right-first-time results within agreed turnaround times using LC-MS/MS systems. The role maintains laboratory equipment and records to ensure the facility is audit-ready. You will gain exposure to all aspects of laboratory management and continuous improvement within a small, innovative team, with opportunities for professional development and career growth.

Responsibilities
  • Perform sample preparation (e.g., solid-phase extraction) and analysis of drugs and alcohol using LC-MS/MS in accordance with validated methods.
  • Conduct review of analytical data and ensure results meet defined quality standards; maintain accurate and complete laboratory records, including instrument logs, maintenance records, and QC documentation.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, laboratory SOPs, and safety policies.
  • Support the validation or verification of new or improved analytical methods under guidance from the Laboratory Director.
  • Monitor stock levels and consumables to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations; identify and communicate deviations, instrument issues, or non-conformances promptly; assist with investigations and resolution.
  • Keep the laboratory clean, safe, and well organized; contribute to continuous improvement activities to enhance efficiency, quality, and turnaround times.
Qualifications
  • BSc (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Analytical Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited or similarly regulated laboratory; understanding of quality requirements in a UKAS-accredited environment.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain consistency and quality without direct supervision.
  • Strong analytical mindset; capable of managing multiple priorities and adapting to changes.

The salary banding is £35,000 to £40,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Our benefits package includes:
