Job summary

Engine by Starling is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, build and run cloud foundations across regions and providers. You will be building scalable, observable, and secure systems that power our first-in-class cloud banking platform.

You will own infrastructure projects from inception to production, write RFCs/ADR's, and mentor others while maintaining high standards for security and cost efficiency. A strong automation mindset and fintech curiosity are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven GCP multi-region disaster recovery experience.
• Bootstrapping Google Cloud Organisations with policy and resource hierarchy.
• Experience with GCP services including GKE, Compute Engine, Network Connectivity Center, Cloud SQL, IAM and VPC Service Controls.
• Experience writing clean, modular Terraform code.
• Experience with service-oriented architecture using containers and immutable infrastructure.
• Experience with key and secret management on GCP — Cloud KMS, EKM and Secret Manager.
• Experience designing hybrid connectivity from GCP to co-located Payment HSMs using NCC, Cloud VPN and Interconnect.
• Experience with Workload Identity and Federation for keyless auth of workloads and CI/CD.
• Experience with observability tooling — Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace, and Grafana.

Responsibilities

• Design, document, build and maintain scalable infrastructure on GCP.
• Ensure performance and reliability of cloud environments while managing cost.
• Embrace automation and minimize manual implementation.
• Build systems with security by design as a core foundation.
• Ensure platform compliance with ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and 3DS.
• Design and operate key/secret management on GCP including cryptographic ceremonies.
• Diagnose and fix infrastructure issues while maintaining security and performance.
• Write RFCs and ADRs and produce runbooks and operating models.
