Job summary

Engine by Starling is seeking a Staff Infrastructure Engineer to design, build and run the cloud foundations for a first-in-class, cloud-native banking platform across regions and clouds. You will modernize infrastructure, ensure reliability, and lead complex projects with a strong emphasis on automation, security, and scale.

Qualifications

• Proven GCP multi-region disaster recovery experience.
• Bootstrapping Google Cloud Organisations and structuring enterprise resources.
• Experience with GCP services including GKE, Compute Engine, IAM and VPC Service Controls.
• Experience writing clean, modular Terraform code.
• Experience with SOA using containers and immutable infrastructure.
• Experience with key and secret management on GCP.” Cloud KMS, EKM, Secret Manager, cryptographic key ceremonies.
• Experience designing hybrid connectivity from GCP to co-located Payment HSMs via NCC, Cloud VPN, Interconnect.
• Experience with Workload Identity and Workload Identity Federation for keyless auth.
• Observability tooling: Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace, OpenTelemetry, Grafana.
• Experience with Google Workspace / Cloud Identity.
• Automation using Python or Go; CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding RESTful API and event-driven concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, document, build and maintain scalable infrastructure on GCP.
• Ensure performance and reliability of cloud environments with cost-effectiveness.
• Embrace automation and minimize manual work.
• Build security by design into systems.
• Ensure platform compliance with ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and 3DS.
• Design and operate key/secret management including cryptographic ceremonies.
• Diagnose and fix infrastructure issues while maintaining security.
• Write RFCs/ADRs and runbooks for production deployments.
• Lead complex infra projects from inception to production.
• Set a high technical bar through contributions and leadership.
