Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer in the UK to support high-profile projects within the Power & Energy portfolio, including HV/EHV cabling, substations, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.

You will develop specifications, provide technical support, and perform calculations and design reviews across project stages, ensuring compliance with CDM and health & safety standards, while collaborating with clients and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
• Extensive experience in a cable-related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
• Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
• Experience in HV/EHV cable systems design for HVAC and HVDC.

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
• Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
• Ensure correct interface with other engineering functions and attend/lead meetings with clients and subcontractors.
• Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath induced voltage calculations.
• Perform design reviews and verification of design.
• Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations, legislation and procedures.
• Promote best practices in health, safety, and environment with SHQE.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain good relations with client/designer/team and supply chain.
• Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
• Ensure drawings/specifications contain sufficient information for construction; request missing info timely.
• Prepare risk assessments and method statements for works control.
• Ensure inspection/test plans are completed as required.
