Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group is seeking a Senior Cable System Engineer in the UK to lead HV/EHV cabling design across energy projects, including HVDC and energy storage interfaces. You will deliver concept through detailed design, write specifications and perform critical technical calculations.

You will collaborate with clients, subcontractors and internal teams, ensuring safe, compliant delivery while leveraging CYMCAP tools and FEED experience to shape robust cable solutions for transmission

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
• Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
• Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
• Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all projects stages.
• Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design
• Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages
• Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems, for both HVAC and HVDC systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept/detailed design and design review.
• Provide technical support to the team on HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant and equipment and route specifications; tender specifications; progress reports.
• Coordinate with other engineering functions; attend meetings with clients and subcontractors.
• Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating, TMF and EMF calculations.
• Perform design reviews and verification of design.
• Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations and company procedures.
• Promote health, safety and environmental best practices with SHQE.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain relationships with client, designer and supply chain.
• Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
• Ensure drawings and specs contain sufficient information for construction.
