Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Cable System Engineer to support HV/EHV cabling design for energy projects across the UK and Continental Europe. You will lead design activities, provide technical guidance, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards while coordinating with clients and subcontractors.

The role offers hybrid working arrangements, with opportunities to contribute to HVDC and HVAC systems, and to advance professional development within a global engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in energy sector.
• Extensive experience in cable design for FEED and detailed design.
• Able to lead HV/EHV cable designs across project stages.
• CYMCAP experience for cable system design.
• Experience with HV/EHV transmission voltages (HVAC/HVDC).

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications and designs.
• Provide technical support across HV cable system engineering.
• Prepare technical specifications, route specs, and reports.
• Interface with engineering teams, clients, and subcontractors.
• Perform cable size, rating, TMF/EMF, and sheath‑induced voltage calculations.
• Conduct design reviews and verification of designs.
• Ensure compliance with CDM, health, safety and environmental policies.
• Support temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain relationships with client and supply chain.
• Advise on setting out methods and techniques.
• Ensure drawings and specs enable construction and timely procurement.
• Prepare risk assessments and method statements for works.
