Job summary

Jacobs in the UK is seeking a Senior Cable System Engineer to support high-profile Power & Energy projects across the UK and Continental Europe, including HV/EHV cabling, substations, HVDC interconnectors and energy storage systems.

You will lead cabling design at all project stages, perform technical calculations, prepare specifications and reports, ensure CDM compliance, and collaborate with clients, designers and suppliers to deliver safe, robust solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
• Experience in energy sector consultancy, contractor, or utility.
• Extensive experience in cable-related roles supporting FEED and/or detailed design.
• Able to lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
• Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
• Experience in HV and EHV cable systems for HVAC and HVDC.

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cabling system specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
• Provide technical support to the team on HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
• Interface with other engineering functions and coordinate meetings with colleagues, clients and subcontractors.
• Perform cable size, rating, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath-induced voltage calculations, and other analyses.
• Perform design reviews and verification of designs.
• Ensure all project designs comply with CDM regulations and company procedures.
• Promote health, safety and environmental best practices with SHQE.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain good relations with client/designer/supply chain.
• Advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
• Ensure drawings and specs contain sufficient information for construction.
• Prepare risk assessments and method statements.
• Ensure inspection and test plans align with PMP/Specification.
