Butler Rose is working with a local government in North West London in their search for an experienced Senior Housing Benefits Officer (Appeals) to focus exclusively on appeals. This is a temporary role up until 31st May 2026, paying up to £30.03 per hour via an umbrella company. This hybrid role is primarily home‑based with occasional office meetings in Harrow, and requires travel to tribunal hearings (several per month). Candidates should ideally live near Harrow, Watford, or London.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage appeal cases, prepare submissions, and attend tribunal hearings
  • Respond to appeals queries and escalations
  • Deputise for the Team Leader and provide guidance to officers
  • Ensure compliance with housing benefit, council tax, and social care regulations
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in Housing Benefit appeals
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and financial assessment systems (e.g., Northgate, Civica)
  • Excellent communication, relationship management, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
