Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer or Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. You will design MV/LV systems to UK standards, create substation layouts, and develop protection and control schemes across energy projects from concept to construction.

The role emphasizes collaboration with clients, suppliers and internal teams, and offers a hybrid work model with opportunities for career development within a global infrastructure firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Knowledge of UK electrical design standards and DNO practices.
• Experience in design office and/or construction for energy projects.
• Understanding of power system characteristics and protection concepts.
• Ability to communicate clearly with internal/external stakeholders.
• Experience writing concise technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Carry out MV/LV design to DNO standards.
• Develop ring/feeder supply network solutions.
• Prepare MV/LV intake and distribution substation layouts.
• Conduct primary plant and equipment design tasks.
• Produce protection, control diagrams and wiring schematics.
• Perform cable sizing, routing, and termination drawings.
• Model earthing grids and perform fault/potential calculations.
• Draft interface designs for SCADA, power supply and metering.
• Collaborate with suppliers/clients and supporting teams.
• Contribute to electrical system studies and zoning checks.
