Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Manchester to join our Transmission & Distribution team. You will carry out medium/high voltage design work, ensure compliance with DNO standards, and deliver practical electrical design solutions across projects in energy.

The role emphasizes collaboration with clients and suppliers, documentation, and participation in design reviews, with hybrid working and opportunities to grow within a global infrastructure firm.

Qualifications

• Degree or relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Knowledge of British and DNO specific design standards.
• Understanding of functional characteristics of Power Systems.
• Ability to work with internal and external parties in a collaborative culture.
• Experience in writing clear and concise documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out Medium Voltage and Low Voltage design work to DNO Standards.
• Provide Open and Closed Ring and Radial Feeder supply network solutions.
• Carry out Intake and Distribution Substation Layout design (Medium Voltage and Low Voltage).
• Conduct primary plant and equipment design works (Medium and Low Voltage).
• Produce secondary protection and control solution diagrams and wiring diagrams.
• Conduct cable sizing calculations, routing, section, and termination drawings.
• Undertake Electrical system, earthing grid design and modelling, touch/step potentials.
• Produce interface designs for SCADA, Auxiliary supply and COP metering.
• Provide MV and LV Local Standby power supply solutions and changeovers.
• Write technical specifications and assist with procurement.
• Liaise with external suppliers and clients.
• Input into electrical system studies for LV/MV modelling and verification.
• Demonstrate understanding of Arc-flash/Blast requirements and mitigation.
• Review design submissions against client scope.
• Participate in design review with Team Lead Verifier.
