Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Manchester to join our Transmission & Distribution team. You will work on medium and low voltage design, engage with clients and suppliers, and deliver practical electrical design solutions across energy projects.

You will apply DNO standards, conduct calculations, create schematics, support procurement, and collaborate in a hybrid work environment to help deliver safe, reliable power systems and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Degree or relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Knowledge of British and DNO specific design standards.
• Track record as Trainee/Assistant Electrical Engineer or graduate in Energy/Power sector.
• Understanding of Power System characteristics.
• Ability to work with internal/external parties in a collaborative culture.
• Experience in writing clear, concise documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out Medium Voltage and Low Voltage design to DNO standards.
• Provide open/closed ring and radial feeder solutions.
• Carry out intake and substation layout design (MV/LV).
• Conduct primary plant and equipment design (MV/LV).
• Produce protection/control diagrams and wiring schematics.
• Perform cable sizing, routing, section and termination drawings (MV/LV).
• Design earthing grids and modelling with fault/ touch/ transfer calculations.
• Interface designs for SCADA, auxiliary supply and metering.
• Provide MV/LV standby and back-up power supply changeover solutions.
• Write technical specifications and support procurement.
• Liaise with external suppliers/clients.
• Input into electrical system studies for LV/MV network modelling/verification.
• Understand Arc-flash/Blast requirements and mitigations.
• Review designs within team against client scope.
• Participate in design review with Team Lead Verifier.
