Overview

12 Month Contract

£43.04 per hour umbrella (Inside IR35)

Hybrid working - circa 2 days per week on site (on average)

Job Role: Applies knowledge and understanding to engineering theories, concepts, practices, principals and approaches, able to apply theoretical engineering knowledge, experience & skills to develop products & services, specifications, designs and developments, able to resolve technical & performance issues and problems for a platform, product or service.

Within the Canadian River-Class Destroyer Design Assurance team, you will be focussed on supporting management of the engineering lifecycle and technical risk, through co-ordinating design reviews, zonal and compartment reviews, and maturity management as well as reporting to provide assurance to the customer and internal stakeholders that the desired performance is being met and maintained by the evolving design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing the activities which underwrite the design assurance strategy, design resilience and protect the integrity of the design
  • Provide engineering expertise across any part of the engineering lifecycle, and the general tasks that may arise from this.
  • Provide dedicated support to users of the Zonal Review (ZX) and Compartment Plan Approval (CPA) Processes
  • Perform Audits on ZX/CPA deliverables
  • Manage embodiment of Learning from Experience (LfE) into Design Assurance processes and User Guides
  • Development of metrics and dashboards to support ZX reviews and track the maturity of the design
  • Support the outcomes of ZX reviews through attendance, action tracking and creation of review certification
  • Development of toolsets to perform design assurance activities more efficiently/effectively
  • Act as a point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
  • Support the Design Assurance Manager in the conduct of the various assurance activities that assess the design maturity of the product
  • Support with the progression of Zonal Review and Compartment Plan Approval processes, ensuring the design assurance strategy, design resilience and the integrity of the design is met
  • Support design assurance mechanisms that provide data to the Chief Engineer and Technical Authorities, such as developing the associated review checklists and managing toolsets
  • Maturity management and reporting to provide assurance to the customer and internal stakeholders that the desired performance is being met and maintained by the evolving design
  • Support development of processes and design assurance approach in response to emerging technical risk and evolving programme needs
  • Leading, developing and educating the RCD engineering teams to ensure they are aware of and capable of delivering their accountabilities through the RCD Zonal Review Process
Key Attributes
  • A good understanding of the engineering lifecycle
  • A good understanding of systems engineering methodologies and practices
  • Experience of working on complex integration design projects (not just focusing on single product design)
  • Demonstrably achieved or working towards an appropriate level of professional certification with a relevant professional body
  • A degree in a relevant subject e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Maths or other equivalent qualification or equivalent experience
