Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure UK data protection compliance, advise senior leaders, support the DPO, and lead initiatives from DPIAs to breach oversight.

You will act as a trusted advisor on DSARs, regulatory inquiries and data protection matters, working in a dynamic, regulated environment with a focus on privacy and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance and/or Legal functions at a specialist level.
• Excellent understanding of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision, pragmatism and professionalism.
• Experience researching, analysing and interpreting regulatory information and presenting it clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Support Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA) maintenance.
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead the assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches, including MI reporting.
• Act as a key contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory enquiries, ensuring robust investigations and responses.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues across the business to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and efficiency.
