Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join the Legal & Compliance Team. You will advise on UK data protection laws, support the DPO, maintain ROPA, and lead DPIA and breach-related activities to ensure robust regulatory compliance.

You will interact with senior leaders, manage data protection initiatives, and drive continuous improvement in privacy practices across the business in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Experience providing data protection advice within Compliance or Legal functions.
• Excellent understanding of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Ability to research, analyse and interpret regulatory information.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting regulatory guidance with accuracy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to influence and negotiate.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Support the maintenance of Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead the assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches and MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a key contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with ICO on customer complaints and regulatory inquiries, ensuring robust investigations and responses.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues across the business to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
