Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist

A unique opportunity has arisen with Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (STH), Cardiothoracic Directorate, to recruit to the position of Senior Perfusionist.
We are one of the largest and most successful healthcare employers in the UK and our Cardiothoracic Directorate provides a range of complex tertiary services, key elements of which have an excellent national reputation. Our cardiac team undertakes over 900 adult cardiac procedures within five cardiac theatres. We do not deliver paediatric services or cardiothoracic transplantation.
You will have a track record in delivering high quality perfusion services and this will include responding to and delivering innovation in the field of perfusion. An interest in research would be advantageous. You must also be accredited by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland and registered with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland.
You will be highly motivated and hardworking, with excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills, demonstrable experience of effective team management and service planning and a commitment to professional development both personal and for the team.
Main duties of the job
This is a part‑time position, currently 30 hrs per week, with the possibility to increase to 37.5 hrs.
You will be responsible for:
- High‑quality patient‑centred services to be delivered to our patients.
- The delivery of a safe, efficient and reliable perfusion in partnership with the lead surgeon, anaesthetist and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- The continued development of perfusion services, in partnership with surgeons and anaesthetists.
- Leading by example as an expert and autonomous practitioner, while providing organisational leadership, clinical and professional perfusion services to the multidisciplinary team.
- Providing education and training where relevant to junior perfusionists, clinical colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Full participation in the department on‑call rota is essential.
- Whilst this is currently a part‑time hours contract, this is a senior post and the relevant experience is necessary to secure the position. Extensive post‑qualification and current registration with CCPS and SCPS is essential.
- Maintain and develop the above services accordingly whilst continuing to excel in your clinical field.
Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 7 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 8a.

Qualifications
- Educated to Post Graduate Diploma level in Perfusion Science (Band 8a)
- Accredited by the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland (Band 7 & 8a)
- Professional Registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of GB and Ireland (Band 7 & 8a)
- Educated to Post Graduate MSc level in Perfusion Science (Band 7)
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (Band 7 & 8a)
- Attendance and participation in clinical audit (Band 7 & 8a)
- Attendance at relevant National Conferences (Band 7 & 8a)
Experience
- Good working knowledge of routine and specialised clinical techniques for example Thrombo Elastography, Vacuum Assist Drainage and Blood Conservation. (Band 7 & 8a)
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and clinical hazards (Band 7 & 8a)
- Up to date with latest developments (Band 7 & 8a)
- Understanding the capabilities and limitations of the clinical equipment used (Band 7 & 8a)
- Extensive experience as a qualified Perfusionist (Band 8a)
- Experience of delivering specialist training to others where appropriate (Band 7 & 8a)
- Presentation at MDT, M&M and audit meetings (Band 7 & 8a)
- Familiar with electronic data management (Band 8a)
