Job description
Senior Clinical Fellow – Breast and Oncoplastic Surgery

We are looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Breast and Oncoplastic Surgery to commence as soon as possible; appointment is for a 12‑month fixed term.

Although the post is non‑training grade, there will be direct Consultant supervision and an educational programme including annual appraisal, 4‑monthly supervisor meetings, access to an e‑portfolio and relevant study leave. A specific programme of protected teaching and a wide range of other clinical training activities will be available.

Postholders are encouraged to undertake audit and quality improvement projects. They will also be supported to pursue Membership examinations in their chosen specialty. Options exist to develop formal teaching or research.

The post offers excellent experience in General Surgery or Breast Surgery and would be suitable for someone who has completed Basic Surgical Training and is looking for an opportunity to widen their experience prior to moving on to Higher Surgical Training.

Opportunities exist within the Directorate for postholders to conduct clinical research. Further academic study, e.g., MSc/BEd, is supported with protected study time built into the job plan.

Responsibilities
  • Weekly timetable will include ward rounds, theatre sessions and outpatients clinics, along with audit/surgical meetings once per week.
  • Continuing care of patients on the ward during the day.
  • Perform duties in unforeseen or emergency circumstances at the request of the consultant.
  • Involvement in teaching, especially under‑graduates.
  • Cover the absence of colleagues, eg annual leave, study leave.
