Senior Care Officer - Older People Services

Pay Rates

£14.50 - £16.05 Umbrella Rate

Information the Role

The Senior Care Officer will lead and support a team to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care within an Extra Care Scheme. This role involves team engagement, service compliance, and direct customer support to ensure safe and effective care in line with CQC standards and Riverside policies.

What you will be doing
  • Create a safe and open environment for colleagues to communicate honestly.
  • Conduct regular supervision, including observing Care Assistants in customer homes, and support best practices in person‑centred care.
  • Provide guidance through coaching, mentoring, and upskilling team members.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings to share updates, ideas, and best practices.
  • Recognise and celebrate team achievements, sharing feedback with managers for 1:1 discussion.
  • Build effective partnerships across Riverside and contribute to wider initiatives.
  • Assist managers in delivering services in line with CQC and contractual requirements.
  • Act as a point of contact for customers and staff where appropriate.
  • Promote and implement care policies and procedures to maintain safe service delivery.
  • Support managers in achieving KPIs and performance targets.
  • Assist with rostering to ensure all shifts are covered effectively.
  • Oversee medication procedures in line with national guidelines, ensuring safe administration, storage, and prompting.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and report risks promptly.
  • Make referrals to Social Services and Occupational Therapists as needed.
  • Supervise the team to deliver person‑centred care and provide direct care when required.
  • Assess care and support needs in consultation with relevant agencies.
  • Review care plans every six months and monitor monthly KPIs.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers, respond to emergencies, and evaluate welfare needs.
  • Engage customers in service design and delivery, incorporating their feedback.
  • Flexible working required, including out-of‑hours and alternate weekends.
  • Undertake regular training and continuous professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with Riverside policies (Health & Safety, safeguarding, GDPR, etc.).
  • Deliver services in line with Riverside values – “Our Riverside Way”.
  • Attend team meetings, supervisions, and reflective practice sessions.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the line manager.
Essential Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years' care experience (essential).
  • Health and Social Care qualification (desirable).
  • Current Enhanced DBS Check.
  • Excellent written English.
