Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description
Senior Cardiac Physiologist (Band 6)

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, Ealing Hospital and Ealing Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

Main responsibilities
  • Perform and provisionally report transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) in accordance with British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) standards.
  • Independently perform ECGs, ambulatory monitoring, Holter analysis, HUTT, AFT, and exercise tolerance tests.
  • Participate in stress echo, contrast echo, and transoesophageal echo sessions under supervision.
  • Monitor patients during investigations, act promptly to minimize life‑threatening events, perform basic CPR and recognise arrhythmias.
  • Accurately document, measure, and archive all echocardiographic studies and communicate results clearly to clinical staff, escalating urgent findings in a timely manner.
  • Clean ultrasound systems, probes, accessories and maintain stock levels.
  • Contribute to audit, CPD, and training activities to improve service quality.
  • Flexibly rotate across multiple trust sites and support a 7‑day working model, accommodating occasional overtime with time off in lieu.
  • Ensure all Trust mandatory training, PPE use, and infection prevention and control policies are up to date.

Person specification
  • BSc degree in Clinical Physiology / Human Physiology.
  • Previous experience working within NHS at Band 5 level or equivalent for at least 18 months.
  • Working towards British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) Accreditation or equivalent.
  • ILS certification.
  • Evidence of continuing education and professional development.
  • Experience in stress and transoesophageal echocardiography.
  • Evidence of participation in audit or quality improvement projects.
  • Master's level or higher degree in Cardiology.

Knowledge and experience
  • Proven experience in performing and provisionally reporting adult transthoracic echocardiogram independently.
  • Proficiency in operating GE and Philips Echo machines.
  • Knowledge of Change Health Care Reporting System.
  • Proven experience in using Cerner and Rego System.
  • Proven experience of working in CDC.
  • Proven experience of performing HUTT.
  • Proven understanding of complex ECG interpretations, including ability to analyse holter monitors using Spacelabs system.
  • Demonstrated capability to recognise and promptly identify life‑threatening arrhythmias.
  • Experience in research and development, ideally in a clinical setting.
