Senior Biomedical Scientist Chemical Pathology

We havean exciting opportunity for a Senior Biomedical Scientist in ClinicalBiochemistry/Immunology. The service supports all hospital wards anddepartments, as well as GPs, clinics, and private hospitals across central andsouth Buckinghamshire and beyond. The central laboratory is based at StokeMandeville Hospital, with a satellite laboratory at Wycombe Hospital. You areexpected to work at either site as required by the service.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry, you will be expected to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Comprehensive Blood Sciences laboratory theory, including quality control and assurance processes, and adherence to minimum identification criteria for samples and requests. You must hold HCPCregistration as a Biomedical Scientist and possess strong knowledge in ClinicalBiochemistry and Immunology. The department is well-equipped with modern, standardisedanalysers, including Architect, Tosoh, Osmo 1 (Advanced Instruments),Chlorochek, HM-JACK, UVikon in Biochemistry, and Helena V8 in Immunology.

Job responsibilities
  • To deputise for the Lead BMS during periods of absence and contribute tothe overall management of the Haematology and Blood Transfusion departments.
  • To supervise and support daily operations within the Routine HaematologyDepartment, ensuring smooth workflow and high performance.
  • To oversee training and education, including technical instruction andsupervision of project work for basic and post-basic qualification trainees.
  • To maintain and monitor laboratory equipment, including calibration,quality control, and the introduction of new technologies and systems.
  • To authorise and review test results, initiate further investigationswhere necessary, and escalate clinically significant findings to medical staff.
  • To support staff development and quality management, including conductingappraisals, assisting with PDPs, and contributing to the Blood Sciences QualityManagement System.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • BSc in Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification.
  • HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • Experience in Chemical Pathology, Immunology, and Biochemistry.
  • Must hold an MSc, FIBMS, or IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry, or possess equivalent Band 7-level experience in a relevant field.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
