Job description
Senior Biomedical Scientist – Blood Transfusion

The Pathology departments at North Tees and South Tees hospitals are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered from all hospital sites via hub and essential services laboratory arrangements. This will require cross site working as appropriate. Organise the work and training of BMS and HCSSW staff working within the department ensuring all professional and Trust protocols are followed. Supervise the day to day running of the department to support effective and efficient service provision. Assist in the development of new and existing service provision of the department.

Work within the Health Professions Council (HPC) Standards of Proficiency for Biomedical Scientists.

Leadership and Improvement Training

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust; this training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the leadership development programme, and the Quality Improvement Programme that the Trust delivers. This programme aims to:

  • Explore leadership within the NHS
  • Promote Trust Values and Behaviours
  • Develop your Leadership effectiveness and skills
  • Practitioner level in quality improvement, equipping you with the skills to champion, lead and complete quality improvement within your role

After you complete this four and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities.

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional, motivated and innovative Biomedical Scientist to join our team as a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Blood Transfusion. The post holder will be expected to work closely with other senior staff across pathology and in support of the development of the Tees Valley Pathology Service in collaboration with South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust, to deliver a high quality service to our users.

Qualifications & Requirements

The successful candidate will be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. The successful applicant must have excellent organisational skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work using their own initiative, to meet tight deadlines.

The departments provide a 24/7 service and the post holder is expected to work flexibly within these hours.
