Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Associate to manage a caseload of inquest and/or Court of Protection work, with opportunities to handle wider healthcare advisory matters. The role primarily involves acting for NHS organisations, but also includes work for independent health and social care providers and local authorities.

The team is nationally recognised for its expertise in mental capacity and mental health law, representing clients in the Court of Protection and at inquests across the country. Successful candidates will have the chance to work on complex, high‑profile cases and develop their skills in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of Court of Protection and/or inquest work with minimal supervision.
  • Provide strategic and commercial advice to health and social care clients.
  • Undertake advocacy in hearings where appropriate.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to junior team members.
  • Engage in business development activities, including delivering seminars and training.
  • Support clients through secondments where required.
  • Achieve budgeted hours and fees, ensuring exceptional client service.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience in Court of Protection (health and welfare applications, serious medical treatment cases) and/or inquest work (including Article 2 and jury inquests).
  • Strong advocacy and case management skills.
  • Knowledge of health and social care advisory matters, including mental health, mental capacity, safeguarding, funding disputes, judicial review, and human rights claims.
  • Ability to prepare complex written advice and comply with client protocols and SLAs.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with IT systems (Microsoft Office) and ideally case management systems.

We will also consider candidates with experience in either medical inquests or Court of Protection work who are keen to broaden their expertise.

Personal Attributes
  • Flexible, ambitious, and results‑oriented.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Keen to take responsibility and contribute to business development.
  • Committed to meeting financial goals and recording time promptly.
