Job description

We are seeking a passionate and experienced SENCO to join a dedicated and special school in Sussex. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school, ensuring every pupil receives the support they need to reach their full potential.

As SENCO, you will play a key role in shaping the school’s approach to inclusion, working closely with teachers, support staff, families, and external professionals. You’ll lead the development and implementation of strategies that promote academic and emotional progress, and ensure compliance with SEND legislation and best practice.

This is a full-time, permanent position, starting immediately. The school offers a collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on professional development and holistic education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision in line with statutory requirements
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Support staff in differentiating lessons and developing inclusive teaching strategies
  • Monitor pupil progress and ensure targeted interventions are in place
  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to colleagues on SEND best practice
  • Ensure safeguarding and wellbeing are embedded in all aspects of provision
  • Contribute to school improvement planning and strategic leadership
Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • NASENCO qualification (or willingness to complete within the required timeframe)
  • Significant experience supporting pupils with SEND, ideally within a specialist or alternative setting
  • Excellent understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory frameworks
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • A reflective, collaborative, and child-centered approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
