Special Needs Assistant - Inspiring Inclusion in Wigan!

Are you an experienced Special Needs Assistant looking to bring your expertise to the classrooms of Wigan? Do you have the skills to address diverse needs, including physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges? We are currently seeking certified assistants to offer personalized support within primary education settings across the Wigan borough starting in January 2026.

In a town with a proud heritage and a strong community heart, your role will be vital in enhancing the educational experience for children with varying requirements. Whether you are supporting students with Autism, ADHD, or Global Development Delay, your dedication will help foster a supportive environment where every Wigan student feels empowered to succeed.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation of resources and activities for 1:1 support tailored to the child's needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and the SENCO to organise appropriate activities.
  • Liaise with other professionals such as Teachers, TAs, and specialist support staff.
  • Work closely with other LSAs and support staff.
  • Work with classes, small groups, and with children on a one-to-one basis.
  • Monitor and track the development of the pupil in question and support personal development and confidence.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience of working with young people.
  • Be comfortable and confident in managing challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to engage with and build rapport with young people.
  • Be creative, proactive, and flexible in your supporting style.
  • Have experience with SEN or a strong knowledge of learning difficulties.
  • TA qualified.
