We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly reliable SEN Support Worker / Teaching Assistant (TA) to join a dedicated Special Educational Needs school located near Harold Hill.

This position involves providing essential one-to-one and small group support to students with a variety of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and specific communication requirements. You will be instrumental in translating educational goals into accessible learning experiences, making a difference in the daily lives of these pupils.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide essential, tailored intervention that enables students to focus on tasks, manage sensory stimulation, and successfully access their curriculum.
  • Work collaboratively alongside the class teacher and therapy teams to adapt learning materials and maintain an organised, therapeutic classroom environment.
  • Implement prescribed individual support strategies related to behaviour management, communication tools (e.g., visual timetables, PECS), and de-escalation techniques.
  • Serve as a positive and consistent role model, promoting independence, social skills, and effective coping mechanisms during challenging periods.
  • Document student engagement and progress accurately, providing clear feedback to the teaching staff and contributing to the review of student support plans.
  • Assist pupils with any necessary personal care or mobility tasks, executing these duties with sensitivity, professionalism, and full respect for the student's privacy.

  • Demonstrable experience working with children or young adults who have complex learning needs, ideally within an educational or care environment.
  • An inherently patient, non-judgemental, and resilient disposition, paired with a proactive approach to solving problems.
  • A strong capability to quickly establish constructive and positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Excellent capacity for observation, clear communication, and working effectively as part of a wider professional team.
  • An Enhanced Child DBS certificate currently on the update service (or the readiness to apply for a new one without delay).
