Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant Birmingham, Build a Career in SEND

You don't need a teaching qualification to do work that matters in a primary classroom. What you do need is the willingness to learn how one particular child communicates, and the patience to keep at it while that understanding builds.

Sprint Education Recruitment supports schools across Birmingham, placing SEN Teaching Assistants into long-term roles. The majority of what we do is primary, with secondary and specialist provision alongside it. If you're looking for a long-term placement supporting students with SEN and complex needs, we'd like to talk to you.

We work with settings across Birmingham and the surrounding areas, including Solihull, Sandwell, Dudley and Halesowen, so wherever you're based it's worth showing your interest.

What SEN Teaching Assistant work involves
  • Working 1:1 or with small groups of children who benefit from tailored support
  • Adapting tasks and resources so a child can take part fully
  • Following communication, learning and behaviour plans set by the SENCO and teaching staff
  • Noticing what helps and what doesn't, and feeding that back accurately
  • Supporting children through transitions, playtimes and less structured parts of the day
  • Working alongside therapists and specialists where they're involved
What we're looking for
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN or complex needs, in an educational setting (6+ months, within the last 5 years)
  • A degree or ongoing study in Psychology, Education, Health and Social Care or similar is welcome, though not essential alongside relevant experience
  • Genuine interest in autism, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs
  • Communication that stays clear and calm in a busy environment
  • A realistic outlook. Consistency tends to matter more than quick results
  • Availability for full-time, long-term or permanent work
  • You’ll need the right to work in the UK
What we offer

Weekly PAYE pay. A named consultant who'll give you a clear picture of a setting before you start, including the parts that are demanding. Access to SEN and behaviour training as you go. Placements built around continuity rather than one-off cover.

Why Sprint?

If you're looking to work as a teacher in a mainstream classroom, providing day-to-day supply cover, we're probably not the agency for you. But if you're passionate about supporting students with additional needs and want a long-term role as an SEN Teaching Assistant, where you can build consistency and see the impact of your work every day, that's exactly what we do.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position is previous experience working in a school setting.

Sprint Education Recruitment is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously. All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
