Psychology/Education/Sociology/Criminology degree

Job description

Finishing a psychology degree tends to leave you with more questions than answers about what comes next. If you've been drawn to how children learn, communicate and make sense of the world, working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant is one of the more direct ways to find out whether that interest holds up in practice.

Sprint Education Recruitment places graduates into long-term teaching assistant roles across Coventry, supporting students with SEN and complex needs in mainstream and specialist settings, from primary through to secondary and alternative provision. Are you looking for that kind of placement, rather than day-to-day cover?

We work with settings in Coventry and the surrounding area, so if you'd be travelling in from Bedworth, Nuneaton, Rugby or Kenilworth, it's still worth showing your interest.

What a Graduate Teaching Assistant does day to day
  • Works 1:1 or with small groups, supporting students to take part in lessons alongside their peers
  • Follows plans and strategies set by teaching staff and the SENCO, rather than designing them
  • Adapts resources so a task is achievable without changing what's being learned
  • Observes carefully and reports back on what's working
  • Supports students through routines, transitions and quieter moments of the day
  • Learns from experienced staff, including therapists and specialists where they're involved
Who this tends to suit
  • Graduates, or final year students, in Psychology, Education, Sociology, Criminology or similar
  • Anyone with experience of children or young people, including volunteering, coaching or youth work
  • People who communicate clearly and don't mind asking questions when they're unsure
  • Those who stay calm and steady when a student is finding something difficult
  • Candidates available for full-time, long-term or permanent work
  • You'll need the right to work in the UK
What we offer

Weekly PAYE pay. A consultant who knows the settings personally and will tell you honestly what to expect. Training in SEN and behaviour support. Long-term placements, which matter here, since this work only really makes sense once a student knows you. Plenty of the graduates we place move on to permanent roles, teacher training, educational psychology or therapy routes afterwards.

Why Sprint?

If you're looking to work as a teacher in a mainstream classroom, providing day-to-day supply cover, we're probably not the agency for you. But if you're passionate about supporting students with additional needs and want a long-term role where you can build consistency and see the impact of your work every day as an SEN Teaching Assistant, that's exactly what we do.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position is previous experience working in a school setting.

Sprint Education Recruitment is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously. All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
