Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) seeks a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with a range of needs. The role involves assisting with education plans, personal care, and ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment within the school.

The post requires experience in learning environments, ability to work in a team, and adherence to health and safeguarding protocols. Assistance with admin tasks and off-site activities may be required.

Qualifications

• Certificate or Diploma level is required.
• Minimum 6 weeks experience in a learning environment or placement (level 2 or equivalent).
• Alternative: 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.
• Health and safety requirements, development needs of children, child protection and safeguarding.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the support and care of pupils with SEN including access to the curriculum.
• Develop understanding of pupils' needs and participate in plans (Education/Care Plans).
• Promote inclusion in mainstream settings under supervision.
• Support with behavioural management as directed.
• Assist with moving pupils around school and transport duties.
• Provide classroom administration, resources, and learning materials.
• Supervise groups/individuals and assist ICT use and activities.
• Attend in-service training and support work placement tasks.
