Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to support pupils with additional needs under the direction of the class or outreach teacher and Education Authority officer.

You will help enable access to the curriculum, assist with personal and medical needs, and contribute to an inclusive learning environment within the school setting. The role emphasizes safeguarding, confidentiality and flexible, team-based collaboration.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area from a recognised accredited awarding body.
• AND Have a minimum of 6 weeks experience in a formal learning environment or through a placement as part of your Level 2 qualification.
• OR Have a minimum of 12 months’ experience of working in a formal learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the educational support and care of pupils with special educational needs in or outside the classroom.
• Assist with operational difficulties and non-invasive medical/clinical needs as directed.
• Support the implementation of Education Plans and Care Plans and promote pupil participation in programmes.
• Provide continuity of adult care, supervise activities, and ensure a safe learning environment.
