Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) seeks a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs to assist with educational support and care for pupils with SEN. Under the direction of the class or outreach teacher, you will help enable access to the curriculum, support plans, and promote positive pupil participation in classroom and on-site activities.

The role requires experience in learning environments, a Level 2 qualification (or equivalent), and the ability to work flexibly in a team.

Qualifications

• Essential criteria include a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification at Certificate or Diploma level.
• Six weeks of experience in a learning environment or through a placement as part of the Level 2 qualification.
• Alternative: 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the educational support and care of pupils with special educational needs.
• Support the teacher to enable access to the curriculum and independence.
• Manage the learning environment to promote pupil engagement and safety.
• Support with medicines and health-related needs as directed.
• Contribute to the inclusion of pupils in mainstream activities.
