Job summary

Education Authority in Northern Ireland seeks a Classroom Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs under the direction of teachers. You will assist with personal care, access to the curriculum, and behavioural support while promoting inclusion across the classroom.

The role requires awareness of health and safety, safeguarding, and collaboration within a team. Full‑time position based in schools; training and safeguarding procedures apply.

Qualifications

• Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area.
• Minimum of 6 weeks experience in a learning environment or 12 months’ experience in a formal setting.
• Knowledge of health and safety, SEN needs and safeguarding.
• Skills to plan, follow systems, work in a team, and adapt to situations.
• Ability to support pupils with SEN and manage behaviour.

Responsibilities

• Assist with educational support and pupil care for SEN students.
• Help pupils access the curriculum, including communication and sensory needs.
• Promote inclusion in mainstream classrooms under guidance.
• Contribute to resource preparation and pupil progress records.
• Supervise activities and assist with off-site events as required.
