Job summary

Education Authority seeks a Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs in Down-Newtownards/Glastry College. The role supports pupils with SEN under the direction of teachers, delivering assistance in and out of the classroom.

Post 1 is 32.5 hpw, permanent; Post 2 is 32.5 hpw, fixed term to 30/06/2027 with possible extension. Flexible working arrangements available during school holidays.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant area.
• Or have a minimum of 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements for children.
• Understanding of child protection and safeguarding.
• Ability to plan, organise and follow systems in a classroom setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with SEN pupils to access the curriculum and care within and outside the classroom.
• Support authorised programmes (Education Plan, Care Plan) and participate in evaluation.
• Promote inclusion of pupils in mainstream schools.
• Assist with risk assessment, supervision and off-site activities as required.
• Assist with administration of medicines and maintain pupil records.
