Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Classroom Assistant – Additional Special Educational Needs to support pupils with SEN in mainstream settings. You will work under the class teacher to enable access to the curriculum, provide personal and academic support, and promote inclusive learning environments.

The post requires a Level 2 qualification or equivalent, with experience in learning environments.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in a relevant area, certificates or diplomas only.
• Must have a minimum of 6 weeks experience gained in a learning environment or placement as part of Level 2.
• Alternatively, at least 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with classroom management and create a supportive environment.
• Support pupils with SEN/learning needs under the direction of the class teacher.
• Prepare resources and assist with learning activities and routines.
• Promote pupil independence and safe handling of materials and equipment.
• Support with practical administration tasks and recording progress.
