Job summary

Education Authority is seeking a Part-Time Classroom Assistant – Special Educational Needs for St Joseph's Primary School Meigh, Down-Newry. 28 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 5.6 hours per day.

The role supports pupils with SEN in and out of the classroom, under guidance from teaching staff. The post involves assisting with curriculum access, personal care, and monitoring pupil progress, while ensuring a safe learning environment and contributing to inclusive education.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 2 qualification in a relevant area (Certificate or Diploma level).
• Or have a minimum of 12 months’ experience in a formal learning environment.
• Demonstrate health and safety awareness and safeguarding knowledge.
• Show effective planning, organisation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with SEN pupil(s) in classroom and non-classroom settings.
• Support access to the curriculum and assist with personal needs and care.
• Assist with behavioural management and safety of pupils during activities.
• Prepare learning resources and support pupil progress records, including administration tasks.
