Overview

Description: SEN Class teacher (Year group flexible) at St Mary's Primary School. Start date ASAP. Fixed term contract of 4 or 5 days per week. Closing date: Monday 5 January 2026 at 8am. Shortlisting: Monday 5 January. Interview date: Wednesday 7 January. Shortlisted candidates may be interviewed before the closing date if a suitable candidate applies.

St Mary's Primary School is a two form entry school with a nursery. We are an inclusive and nurturing school family in the heart of a village community and are looking for a friendly, aspirational, kind, skilled and professional person to join our team. The role is to teach a small group of pupils with high levels of additional needs, working with support from a full-time teaching assistant. The ratio will be 1:5. Working hours can be flexible, with a minimum of 4 days per week. No ECTs or UP please.

Purpose

  • To provide excellent teaching and enjoyable learning for the children.
  • To manage or assist in the development of a curriculum area throughout the school.

Responsibilities

  • To adhere to safeguarding policies to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
  • To meet, share ideas and plan collaboratively with members of the team and ensure enjoyment, continuity and progression for all.
  • To effectively deploy support staff.
  • To implement and maintain the school’s pastoral care and behaviour policy, considering the mental health and emotional wellbeing needs of each child.
  • To meet the academic needs of all children.
  • To be a reflective practitioner and proactive in seeking CPD opportunities.

Teaching and Learning

  • To demonstrate excellent practice in terms of classroom teaching, learning and organisation.
  • To assess pupils in line with the school policy.
  • To ensure the best possible outcomes for all learners across the curriculum including vulnerable groups.

Strategic Development

  • To manage or assist in developing policy and practice, leading the work of colleagues in a specified subject in order to promote effective teaching and learning for all children.
