Job summary

M&S in Barnstaple is seeking a Security Officer to help create a safe, welcoming and secure environment for customers and colleagues. You will be the visible presence delivering professional service while protecting stores, people and products.

You should stay calm under pressure, lead with professionalism, and combine strong awareness with a warm, approachable attitude. The role involves loss prevention, incident response, and using store tech including body-worn cameras to support operations.

Qualifications

• Previous security experience preferred
• A valid SIA licence desirable though not essential
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A calm, confident and professional approach
• A proactive mindset with the ability to make sound decisions quickly
• A genuine passion for customer service and keeping people safe

Responsibilities

• You’ll be the visible presence in store, helping customers feel supported while playing a key role in keeping the business safe and secure.
• You’ll operate in a fast-paced retail environment, staying alert, responsive and ready to step in when needed.
• You’ll help keep our stores safe and secure, from preventing loss and responding to incidents to identifying risks and supporting safe ways of working.
• You’ll use store technology, including mobile reporting systems and body-worn cameras, to support store operations and incident management.
• You’ll stay calm under pressure and act professionally and confidently in challenging situations.
• You’ll work closely with store colleagues to maintain high standards and a positive environment.
