Job summary

A leading construction firm is seeking an experienced Section Engineer specializing in Earthworks for a major rail upgrade project in Hertfordshire. The ideal candidate will have significant hands-on experience on major civils or rail projects and strong technical knowledge to manage works independently. Section Engineer - Earthworks (Rail)

Location: Hertfordshire

Employer: Tier 1 Main Contractor

Randstad is recruiting for an experienced Section Engineer with strong Earthworks expertise to support a major rail upgrade project in Hertfordshire.

You will be joining a Tier 1 main contractor, working on a combination of civils and building works within a live rail environment. The earthworks package will be your primary responsibility, requiring strong technical oversight and proven delivery experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing engineering activities, subcontractors, and/or self-delivery teams
  • Planning, forecasting, and delivering works to programme
  • Liaising effectively with clients, designers, and other key stakeholders
  • Developing and maintaining programmes, risk assessments, and quality assurance documentation
  • Overseeing design coordination, NCRs, RFIs, and health & safety compliance
Essential Experience
  • Significant hands‑on experience delivering Earthworks packages on major civils or rail projects
  • Strong technical knowledge and the ability to manage works independently
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
