Job description
Secondary Teaching Assistant

Location: Derby (DE23)

PayScale: 100 - 115 per day

Duration: Long-term to permanent

Start date: 26th January 2026

The Opportunity
  • Provide academic and pastoral support to students across a range of subjects in years 7, 8 & 9 (Key Stage 3) in a mainstream secondary school.
  • Proven experience supporting children on a 1:1 basis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider team.
  • Full-time role, Monday to Friday. Paid up to 115 per day, term-time only.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work under the guidance of the SENCO to deliver tailored support strategies
  • Provide 1:1 and small group assistance to students with a variety of special educational needs across all years
  • Support students to remain engaged and focused on lessons, adapting resources where needed
  • Assist with differentiation, coursework, and organisation to help students access the full curriculum
  • Help maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment through strong behaviour management skills
  • Liaise regularly with teaching staff and the SEN team to monitor progress and adjust support strategies accordingly
