What You’ll Do

Your Impact: Our seasonal staff plays an integral role in ensuring that our visitors enjoy our extraordinary places. With the change to warmer temperatures, we experience an influx of visitors of all ages and backgrounds who want to explore and be inspired by our properties. Sandy beaches, wooded trails, cultural gardens, historic homes, community supported agriculture—there are many ways for visitors to discover and explore The Trustees, and just as many opportunities for seasonal employees to make each visitor’s experience special.

The Role: As a Seasonal Assistant Beach Manager (SABM), you will serve as a leader and use your experience in customer service to help ensure every to Crane Beach is positive and enjoyable. You will report to the Property Business Manager and work closely with a Seasonal ABM during the peak summertime period. The ABM will oversee a large portion of the day‑to‑day operations at the beach and work collaboratively with other supervisory staff on the property, including the Property Business Manager and Public Safety Manager. In the summer season, the SABM will manage the beach gate and transport staff.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with seasonal staff training, monitoring delivery and coaching staff to sustain positive staff/guest interactions. Correct behaviors as necessary.
  • Be a part of interdepartmental communication at Crane Beach, ensuring Rangers, Lifeguards, Stewardship crew, Gate Staff, EMTs, Beach store, Ecology, and Engagement Staff work positively together.
  • Ensure proper daily opening and/or closing of beach.
  • Oversee employee records and payroll for beach employees. Maintain staff schedules.
  • Carefully monitor traffic flow onto the property. In collaboration with the Beach Steward, ensure that parking lot is carefully managed to maximize revenue and minimize visitor frustration and safety.
  • Relentlessly emphasize the importance of Crane Beach staff’s role in the organization’s membership recruitment efforts.
  • Commanding knowledge of current POS system to ensure staff understanding and use of software and provide troubleshooting solutions when necessary.
  • Coordinate maintenance and cleaning of the Bathhouse facility with the Cleaners.
  • Assist in the distribution and collection of survey data from Trustees visitors.

This is a limited‑term, nonexempt position working 20-30 hours/week reporting directly to the Property Manager.

What You’ll Need
Skills and Experience
  • Experience as a strong positive leader with teams cohesion.
  • Interested in workstation and field operations work, and able to switch gears readily.
  • Experience record/log keeping and public safety documentation.
  • Eye for detail to ensure that daily operations are smooth and the ability to look at the ‘big picture’ and guide staff and beach toward a common goal.
  • Exceptionally strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Must be capable of effectively handling high‑pressure situations while remaining calm.
  • Additional experience/background in the following areas is a plus: customer service, conflict management, visitor experience.
  • Must have flexibility to work the summer season holidays, evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Access to a vehicle is necessary.
  • Must be able to consistently lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to be on foot for upwards of 10 hours per day.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
  • A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
